The ship, named Jamal and carrying liquefied natural gas, left the strait on Friday morning, according to data on shipping traffic in the area. However, a ship with the same name and registered details was reportedly scrapped in October 2025 at an Indian recycling facility.

This raises suspicions that it is a so-called "zombie ship" - a vessel using another ship's data to circumvent possible sanctions. This has happened before with oil tankers, but according to Bloomberg, this would be the first time it has happened in connection with the transport of liquefied natural gas.
