Swedish football legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic's eldest son is following in his father's footsteps. Maximilian Ibrahimovic is ready to play for Ajax. "I want to write my own history," he tells the club's website.

It was at the Amsterdam club that Zlatan Ibrahimovic began his international career in the early 2000s.

"It's cool that he also played for Ajax and I'm happy that I get the opportunity to play here too. Ibrahimovic is just a name, I'm just Maximilian," he says in a short video on the Ajax website.

It is a six-month loan from Milan. Ajax says there is also an option to buy the 19-year-old.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic left Malmö FF in 2001 for Ajax and went on to play for Juventus, Inter, Barcelona, Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Los Angeles Galaxy.

He ended his career after the 2022-2023 season and the 44-year-old is now a sporting advisor at Milan. He advised his son before his loan to the Dutch giants.

"He said that Ajax is a great club and that Amsterdam is a great city," says Maximilian Ibrahimovic.

"He will initially mainly play for Ajax U23 and will alternate between Ajax U23 and the first team during the season, so he can get used to the higher level," says the club's football director Marijn Beuker.

In Milan, Maximilian Ibrahimovic played with the club's second team in Serie D.
