"It is possible to stop attacking energy infrastructure today, but Putin doesn't want to," the Ukrainian president writes on X, continuing:

"Ukraine is ready to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries if Russia stops attacking our energy infrastructure. Any steps to de-escalate must be mutual and backed by real guarantees," Zelenskyy writes.

Ukraine's energy supply is suffering greatly from Russian attacks, and in the capital, Kyiv, the mayor says the winter will be about survival.

At the same time, Russian oil facilities have been severely affected by Ukrainian attacks. The situation has come to a head since Trump recently reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin on deliveries of Russian diesel.

On Saturday evening, local time in Sweden, Trump told a press conference that Ukraine “should get a new leader” and that Zelenskyy, through the attacks on Russian refineries, “wants to create problems for our farmers and ranchers.” He can do what he wants, Trump continued, “but don’t attack refineries.”

"He's got to make sure he stops doing that," Trump said.

The remark delighted Moscow. Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriyev called it "iconic and historic."

The price of diesel, a common fuel for tractors and trucks, has skyrocketed, not least because of the war in Iran, which has disrupted the flow through the Persian Gulf.
