Ukraine has attacked two Russian oil refineries, one in Bashkiria, 1,300 kilometers from the front, and the other in the Yaroslavl region, nearly 700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. This is what President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote in an X post, accompanied by videos of billowing smoke from large fires.
"Our responses to the Russian aggression in the Black Sea were also successful. Among other things, two military patrol boats and ships belonging to the shadow fleet were hit," he writes further.
The Yaroslavl plant is the largest oil refinery in Russia's central region and one of the five largest in the entire country, The Kyiv Independent reports.
The governor of the region, Mikhail Yevrayev, calls the attack the largest the region has ever been subjected to, he writes on Telegram.
The oil facilities are being used by Russia to finance the war and the killing of Ukrainians, Zelenskyy points out.
The Defense Ministry in Moscow has issued a second report. It claims to have shot down hundreds of drones, and in Yaroslavl, it says debris sparked fires in residential buildings and cars, among other things.
