The American Patriot air defence missile system could save lives in Ukraine this winter, says Zelenskyy, who has asked the US for more.
"If they sell five percent of what they have in stock, we'll get through the winter and save lives. If they can sell ten percent, we'll destroy all the Russian ballistic missiles. I have one percent," the president told CNN.
At the beginning of August, an entire night passed without Ukraine managing to shoot down a single Russian missile.
During the NATO summit in Turkey earlier this summer, Trump announced that Ukraine would be granted a licence to manufacture Patriots. However, the president appeared to backtrack on that promise at a cabinet meeting, where he said the issue was being discussed but that it was “difficult to give away that type of technology.”
"This is a big challenge for me, one of the biggest I've had since the beginning of the war," Zelenskyy said.
