Zelenskyy says Ukraine hacked Russian emergency alert app in response to attacks

Ukraine is behind the hacking of a Russian emergency notification app last night, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the US public broadcaster PBS.

Zelenskyy has previously claimed that Russia was behind the hacking of a similar app in Ukraine a few hours earlier.

“We are only responding to their attacks,” Zelenskyy told the public service broadcaster.

The Ukrainian app was hacked on Sunday evening. The public was warned about the risk of radiation exposure, a “chemical threat” and street fighting in the capital, Kyiv.

In Russia, it is still unclear what type of message was sent out. But according to the BBC and others, Russians received warnings of incoming nuclear warheads mounted on Ukrainian attack drones “in all Russian regions”.
