"At our last meeting, President Trump emphasized to me: yes, I have made a final decision. Ukraine will receive licenses for the production of Patriot missiles," Zelensky said in an audio clip sent to journalists on Friday.
This summer, Trump announced that Ukraine would receive a license to manufacture Patriot missiles, but he later appeared to backtrack on the decision by saying that the US should be "very careful" before granting such a license.
Zelensky's statement about Trump's message has not been confirmed by the United States.
Ukraine has said the country is suffering from an acute shortage of US-made Patriot missiles since Israel and the US launched a war against Iran, which led to the diversion of the advanced systems.
Patriot is seen as crucial for protecting civilians against Russian missile attacks.
Zelenskyy said as recently as August that Ukraine needs five percent of the US stockpile of Patriot missiles to survive the winter and ten percent to destroy all of Russia's ballistic missiles.
