Ahead of the meeting, Zelenskyy wrote on social media that he wanted to prioritise the issue of anti-ballistic missile defence in his conversation with the US president.
On Tuesday afternoon, it was not clear whether the leaders had finalised details regarding the US's consent for Ukraine to manufacture the Patriot air defence system under licence.
"We discussed the licence for the production of anti-aircraft missiles," Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram shortly after the meeting.
The Ukrainian president thanked Donald Trump for the conversation in the Oval Office, which his press secretary Karoline Leavitt described as “a good meeting.” The meeting was not official and no press conference was held.
On Tuesday evening, Zelenskyy will attend Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral.
