Zelenskyy warns that Russia wants to use the neighboring country for an offensive against the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. Attempts to persuade Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko are underway, according to Ukrainian intelligence.
"Ukraine will undoubtedly defend itself and its people if Alexander Lukashenko makes the wrong decision and decides to support this Russian intention as well," Zelenskyy writes on X after a meeting with the General Staff.
An alternative goal for Russia could be to use Belarus for an attack on neighboring NATO countries, according to Zelenskyy.
During Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, some Russian forces entered Ukraine from Belarus.
