Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyj warns of a potential accident at the Russian-occupied nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia.

The situation is critical. Due to Russian attacks, the power plant has been disconnected from its power supply and power grid. It is powered by diesel generators, said Zelenskyj in his daily speech on Tuesday.

As long as the diesel generators are in operation, there is no immediate danger, replies the UN's atomic energy organization IAEA. But the situation is unsustainable, they warn.

”It is obviously not a sustainable situation when it comes to nuclear safety. Neither side would benefit from a nuclear power plant accident”, says IAEA in a statement.

President Zelenskyj accuses Russia of preventing repairs to the power lines to the power plant.
