The Ukrainian president once again held a speech via video link when the EU countries' heads of state and government held a summit in Brussels on Thursday.
The speech came after Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, on his way into the meeting, once again reaffirmed his opposition to letting Ukraine begin negotiating membership.
–If we were to integrate Ukraine into the EU, we would integrate the war. We do not want to be together in a union with a country that represents an immediate danger to us, said Orbán to the journalists on site.
President Zelenskyj responded by warning of the disagreement.
–This is Putin's dream: a fragmented Europe where marginal voices gain influence. Russia supports anyone, regardless of how extreme they are, who tries to weaken Europe from within, said Zelenskyj, among other things.
Despite Hungary's opposition, the other EU countries hope for a decision at the latest during the weekend on both an 18th sanctions package and an extension of previous sanctions.
