"Give us two months, 60 days, of a complete ceasefire and we will hold elections," Zelenskyy said in an interview with ABC.

The comment comes after US President Donald Trump criticized Zelenskyy on Saturday, saying Ukraine "should get a new president" because Kyiv did not want to agree to stop attacking Russian energy infrastructure.

Ukraine is suffering badly from Russian attacks on its energy supplies, and the capital's mayor recently warned that winter would be a matter of survival.

Sunday's statement is not the first time Zelenskyy has said he would hold elections in exchange for a ceasefire; in February, he made a similar comment in an interview with Axios.
