Zelensky opens up for direct talks with Putin

Volodymyr Zelenskyj can imagine talking directly with Russia's leader Vladimir Putin about ending the war that has been going on for almost three years, says the Ukrainian president in an interview with journalist Piers Morgan.

On a question about how he would position himself if he sat opposite Putin at the negotiating table, Zelenskyj responds:

If it is the only possible setup with which we can achieve peace for the Ukrainian people and not lose lives, then we will undoubtedly bet on it, says Zelenskyj, and continues:

I will not show him any kindness, to me he is an enemy. If I am to be honest, I believe he sees me in the same way.

The comments come just over two weeks after Donald Trump, who has promised to put an end to the war, took over the presidency in the USA.

On Sunday, Keith Kellogg, Trump's envoy to Ukraine, said that both Kyiv and Moscow must "make concessions" if they are to negotiate an end to Russia's invasion war.
