An invitation was conveyed during the first phone call between Zelenskyj and the new pope, who was elected by the conclave in the Vatican on Thursday.
"Such a visit would give real hope to all believers, to our entire people", writes the president on X and states that he thanked Pope Leo for his call for peace in Ukraine.
"We deeply appreciate his words about the need to achieve a just and sustainable peace for our country", writes Zelenskyj.
