“There is hope now that there is a balance of power and that we will get more support,” Zelensky told German TV channel ZDF.
Republican President Donald Trump’s approach to Russia and its President, Vladimir Putin, has caused growing concern in Ukraine and Europe.
But if the US Congress - which will be controlled by Democrats when the next Congress convenes in January - starts talking about increased economic or military support for Ukraine, it could “influence Putin,” Zelensky believes.
“And Putin will think about whether it makes sense to continue fighting if the support only continues to grow. Logically, that will lead us to possible negotiations and a possible peace,” he says.
