High on the agenda in Munich is Russia's full-scale war of aggression in Ukraine, which has been going on for almost three years.

In an interview with British ITV before the trip, Zelensky warns that a Russian victory in the Ukraine war would entail significant losses for the entire Western world.

A possible peace agreement must be made in consultation with Kyiv and include Ukrainian security guarantees, he emphasizes.

No Prizes

(Vladimir) Putin will never stop, he says about the Russian leader.

A frozen conflict will only lead to Putin and his aggression coming back. Who will then get prizes? Who will write history as a winner? No one. Everyone will lose.

Zelensky appears to be alluding to rumors that the newly elected US President Donald Trump would like to have the Nobel Peace Prize. During the election campaign, Trump promised that he could end the Ukraine war within a day, a statement he later backed down from.

But the Ukraine war is a high priority for the White House. Among the proposals that have leaked out are ideas to freeze the front line in its current position, put Ukraine's ambitions for NATO membership on hold, and condition US continued arms support on Kyiv participating in peace talks.

Donald Trump has also said that an agreement on rare Ukrainian earth metals is desirable if the country is to receive continued aid.

Lower Oil Price?

After the inauguration, Donald Trump has also toughened his tone towards Vladimir Putin. This through threats of tightened sanctions and tariffs, targeting Russian oil. Trump has said he is considering getting the oil cartel Opec to lower the price of oil so that the Russian war effort gets "an immediate end".

Donald Trump's Vice President JD Vance and Ukraine adviser Keith Kellogg are also attending the security conference in Munich.

Zelensky's office confirms that the president will hold a meeting with Vance in Munich.
