Russia should make a deal with Ukraine, Trump says at Évian-les-Bains.
Trump also confirms that he has a meeting with Zelenskyy scheduled for later on Tuesday.
Zelenskyy was welcomed in the morning by the host country's president, Emmanuel Macron, before a discussion about Russia's war of aggression began.
A central player in this context is Donald Trump, who spoke on the phone with both Zelenskyy and Russian president Vladimir Putin on Sunday. Trump has been focused on the conflict with Iran in recent weeks, but late on Monday he signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran that is intended to lead to a lasting peace agreement.
"Now that this (Iran) is over, we should focus on that (Ukraine)," he says at the G7 meeting.
Trump's mediation efforts have previously been criticized for being too accommodating to aggressor Russia. European leaders on the ground are expected to emphasize the importance of Moscow making concessions in a future peace settlement.
The informal G7 (Group of Seven) consists of seven of the world's leading industrialized countries that are also considered democracies: France, Italy, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States. Until 2014, Russia was also part of the group, which was then called the G8.
