Zara Larsson's album "Midnight Sun" and the song "Stateside" with Pink Panther won the awards for breakthrough album of the year and collaboration of the year respectively at the gala, which is one of the largest in the US - and where the award winners are also voted for by fans.
"It feels extra special when I know that it's fans who have voted," Zara Larsson writes on Instagram.
The Swedish pop star has had a breakthrough in the US over the past six months with several songs on the charts simultaneously, and Larsson was nominated in five categories but was unable to be there to receive the awards.
BTS was one of the winners of the gala with three statuettes, including in the prestigious category of artist of the year. Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Katseye, Sabrina Carpenter and Sombr also took home three awards each.
The award for song of the year went to “Golden” by Audrey Nuna, EJAE and Rei Ami, the voices behind the fictional band Huntr/X in the animated film “K-Pop: Demon Hunters”.
