Friday and Saturday are already sold out at Way Out West, which is held in Slottsskogen in Gothenburg August 13-15.

At the time of writing, we only have a couple of Thursday tickets left, then it's sold out and it's never happened in the festival's history before, says Marketing Manager Filip Hiltmann.

He also thinks he has noticed that the festival is receiving more international attention.

It's super cool to be able to be in that league.

“Cultural moment”

Both Zara Larsson and Lykke Li are making their only Swedish appearances at Way Out West. Filip Hiltmann thinks they are a perfect fit - the artists at the festival should have “some kind of relevance in the present day”. He believes Larsson will be Thursday’s most-attended concert.

Zara Larsson is really having a cultural moment right now. The tour she's on is not unlike the cultural moment we saw with Charli XCX last year.

As a female world artist, wasn't it time to top it with her name?

We see her as a headliner and one of our biggest draws. It's not just about who plays last, and we have her in the biggest font on the poster.

Gorillaz are last out on Saturday. It's often seen as the most prestigious slot, and Hiltmann believes the band draws the most.

It's usually our busiest day. But now both Friday and Saturday are sold out, so it might as well be The Cure or Nick Cave, or Zara Larsson maybe.

He emphasizes that there is more to discover beyond the big names - such as the indie rock band Geese and the Norwegian duo Smerz.

Dijon is a great American artist who plays some kind of deformed soul funk and is now playing in Sweden for the first time. It's really cool.
