Ystad Leads Handball Finals with 2-1 Victory Over Hammarby

The final series in handball is an extremely even history and once again it became a one-goal victory for Ystads IF at home against Hammarby – 33–32. Ystad leads with 2–1 in matches and can decide on Friday.

In the first final, Ystad won 32–31 at home. Hammarby won the second match with a two-goal margin – 37–35 – and also had a two-goal lead at halftime in the third match.

But the home team caught up and had a one-goal lead with one minute left in the game. Then they kept the ball for a long time and could finally score 33–31 before Hammarby managed to score a goal in the last seconds.

It was good fighting and battling and fighting – not so much finesse, says Ystad's top scorer Jakob Nygren (six goals) to handbollsligan.se.

This is a fantastic final series, even and with an amazing atmosphere in both halls.

He says that it was the home crowd that gave the team extra energy to win the match.

Hammarby's Josef Pujol was pleased with the team's play.

We played a good match, but I think we had a bit of bad luck and deserved to get at least an extension, he says.

On Friday, the fourth final match will be played, best of five, and Ystad can decide in Stockholm.

We'll win one more match and we'd love to do it on Friday, says Nygren.

Hammarby, of course, hopes for something else:

We'll do everything to take it to a fifth and decisive. We've consistently shown that we can keep up with Ystad, but it takes that we play a good game, says Pujol.
