The alarm came in just before 10 p.m. According to the police, the man was awake and able to talk when he was taken to hospital.
The incident is being classified as attempted murder, and police spokesperson Anna Lärk says they are now investigating what caused it.
"We are collecting information continuously. We have interviews with potential witnesses, helicopters searching from the air, dog patrols and going through surveillance cameras," she says.
No one has been arrested in connection with the crime.
