The men's singles tournament in the US Open tennis will be played entirely without Swedes. This is clear after Elias Ymer was knocked out directly in the first qualifying round, with the scores 6–7 (6–8), 6–7 (3–7) against American Patrick Kypson.

Ymer has thus failed to qualify for three of the four Grand Slam tournaments this year. Only in Wimbledon did he make it into the main tournament, only to be knocked out directly in the first round.

It went better for Mirjam Björklund when she played her first qualifying match later on Tuesday. The 26-year-old defeated Anastasiya Soboleva, Ukraine, with 6–4, 6–4 and ensured that the hope of a Swedish player in the women's singles tournament still lives.

Björklund's US Open qualifying continues against 168th-ranked Elizabeth Mandlik, USA.
