A federal judge in the United States gives the Justice Department the green light to release materials from the investigation that led to a 2021 conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell, the accomplice of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

These include previously secret transcripts from grand jury trials and investigative materials. In total, there could be thousands of pages of documents.

Maxwell was convicted in 2021 of involvement in Epstein's trafficking of young women for sexual purposes, and is serving a 20-year prison sentence.

Last week, another judge made a similar decision regarding transcripts from grand jury trials in 2005 and 2007 involving Jeffrey Epstein himself.

The decisions come after Congress in November approved a bill to release documents linked to Maxwell and Epstein.

Epstein was found dead in his New York prison cell in 2019 while awaiting trial.
