After the semi-final loss to Manchester United in the European League in May, Athletic Club's Yeray Álvarez tested positive for the doping-classified substance kanrenon.
Álvarez was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2016. He has been cleared twice, but underwent new treatment earlier this year.
After the cancer treatment, the centre-back took medication to prevent hair loss. It is through this medication that Álvarez claims to have ingested kanrenon.
The 30-year-old has previously been temporarily suspended, but after the European Football Association's (Uefa) investigation, he is now suspended for ten months.
The suspension applies to all competitions until 2 April 2026.
