The attack occurred in the province of al-Hudaydah (Hodeidah) on the Red Sea late Friday and continued until early Saturday morning with intense artillery fire.
At least 14 soldiers loyal to Yemen's internationally recognized government were killed and more than 20 wounded in the attack, the first of its kind in years in al-Hudaydah.
According to military and local sources, the target of the attack was government positions on Mount Dabas in the Hays area.
The Houthis have been at war with the government since 2015 in a conflict that has cost hundreds of thousands of lives and triggered a widespread humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
