In "Under Salt Marsh," Kelly Reilly plays a former police officer who has become a teacher, but is drawn into a murder investigation involving a young schoolboy in the small coastal town in Wales where she now lives.
A lot of rain
"Under Salt Marsh" premieres on April 2 on the streaming service SkyShowtime and is a low-key thriller where it rains a lot.
"Yes, it rains a lot," says Kelly Reilly, laughing.
"And there was something about that weather that felt very refreshing. The environment and the location play such a big role in the plot," she continues.
An approaching storm becomes a symbol of the tensions that threaten to destroy the small community, forcing the residents to unite to protect themselves.
Kelly Reilly has lived outside New York for 15 years, but she also owns a house in Sussex, England, and travels there when she can. Even though her career is booming in the US, she says she would like to work more at home.
The actress received the script via email and says she sat in bed for a long time reading it on her phone.
"I couldn't put it down. There was something about it that grabbed me. It's hard to put your finger on what it was. Sure, it was well-written and interesting, but there was also a tone to it that felt right to me. It's a very European story. It's low-key."
"Yellowstone" sequel
Kelly Reilly's biggest role to date is Beth Dutton in "Yellowstone", the daughter of Kevin Costner's character John Dutton.
"Yellowstone meant a lot to me. It was a cool character for me to step into - and it was a real rollercoaster ride while we were making the series."
"Yellowstone" has had a number of sequels. One of them is "The Dutton Ranch," which is about Beth Dutton and her family. Filming is underway, but Kelly Reilly is not allowed to talk about it yet.
"There's so much going on that I can't reveal. So while we're still filming it, I'm keeping quiet. But it's about Rip and Beth and their son Carter; that's no secret."
"The Dutton Ranch" premieres on SkyShowtime May 22.
