After falling behind 0–2 in the series against Tampa Bay, New York had to win at home to keep the series and its season alive.

In the sixth inning, Anthony Volpe appeared to tie the game with a home run. However, after a video review, the call was overturned when officials determined that a fan in the stands had affected the play while trying to catch the ball.

The disallowed run proved decisive, and the Yankees ultimately lost the game 3–4 and the series 0–3. The New York Post now reports that the fan, who was wearing a Yankees jacket, was escorted out of the stadium by police and security personnel to prevent a brawl in the stands.

Tampa will face Cleveland in the next round.
