Xi's purge continues, top military officials fired

The purge comes days before China's National People's Congress (NPC) and the advisory body CPPCC gather to make decisions on the country's legislation and policy guidelines.

Both bodies have voted out a number of members in recent weeks. Last week's purge included Liu Shaoyun, head of China's military court.

Since President Xi Jinping took power, a massive effort to combat corruption within the state apparatus has been launched. In January, Zhang Youxia, one of two vice-chairmen of the powerful Central Military Commission that controls China's military, was arrested on charges of leaking information about the country's nuclear weapons to the United States.
