China wants to safeguard the existing, UN-established world order, President Xi Jinping says during a reception for Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in Beijing.

Xi told Orpo, according to Chinese state television, "China is ready to work together with Finland to uphold the international system with the UN at its core."

Orpo is one of several Western leaders traveling to China. French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney visited recently, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is due to visit this week.

Neither China nor Finland has accepted invitations to the so-called peace council that US President Donald Trump has established.
