Xi landed in the United States just before midnight Swedish time and was met by President Trump. The two will hold meetings and visit an exhibition of Asian art on Thursday, the White House said.
"I look forward to an in-depth exchange with President Trump on important issues concerning our bilateral relations and the global situation," Xi wrote in a statement, according to the state-run Chinese news agency Xinhua.
Xi added that the countries should be “partners rather than rivals.”
