"The current international situation is complex and intertwined. As permanent members of the UN Security Council and major global economies, China and the UK must strengthen our dialogue and cooperation," Xi said.
Starmer also emphasizes the importance of the relationship between the two countries.
"China is an important player globally and it is crucial to build a more sophisticated relationship where we find opportunities for cooperation, but also to have meaningful dialogues in areas where we disagree," he says.
Starmer is the latest in a string of Western leaders to travel to China. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo visited the country earlier this week, and French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney were both there recently.
