China's President Xi Jinping tells Vietnam's leader To Lam that they must together resist the US's "bullying" in the ongoing trade war.
We must strengthen our strategic determination, together resist unilateral bullying and maintain the global free trade system as well as industrial and supply chains, says Xi according to the state-owned Chinese news agency New China.
Earlier in the day, a debate article by Xi was published in the Vietnamese Communist Party's newspaper, where Xi also warned that a trade war "has no winners" and that protectionism "leads nowhere".
The visit is the Chinese President's first trip abroad this year. After Vietnam, he is also expected to visit Malaysia and Cambodia during the week.
