In Le Porge, north of Bordeaux, nearly 200 houses were destroyed in the huge fire. During firefighting, explosions were heard that were believed to be gas cylinders exploding in the heat. Now, grenades and other ammunition from the Second World War have been found in the charred ground. Deminers are working in the area and since Friday, more than 75 unexploded grenades have been removed. The head of the demining team in Bordeaux told Le Figaro that “there are many more.”
"The focus is first on collecting shells found on the surface. We will deal with the buried shells later," he told the newspaper.
