The Japanese pair Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara secured the country's first Olympic gold in pair skating. Their 158.13 points in the free program equaled a world record and earned them the gold, just ahead of the Georgian pair Anastasia Metelkina and Luka Berulava.

For Georgia, it was the country's first medal at the Winter Olympics since it began participating in the Games in 1994.

Germany took home the bronze.
