According to WTA rules, players must compete in the four Grand Slam tournaments, the ten events at the level below, and six additional events. Players who skip any of these risk fines or having ranking points taken away.
Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka is ready for anything.
The 27-year-old believes that the WTA top officials do not care about the players' health and says that she should be exempt from mandatory competitions.
"The season is definitely crazy, and it's not good for any of us. You see so many players getting injured," she says.
I do it to protect my body, because I struggled a lot last season.
The WTA has not yet commented on the matter, while the men's ATP Tour has previously said that "the health of the players is the highest priority."
