The right-back was in an unmarked position when he was struck in the groin. He immediately sat down on the field, received treatment and left Strandvallen limping in the 60th minute.

Stroud took a hit to his left groin as he walked off the field.

“Tired in the groin”

"I've been playing a lot and felt tired in my groin, so it was smart to leave when I felt it," he told TV4.

Immediate assessment will determine the extent of the injury. Time is not on the defender's side when it comes to a strain.

The national team will gather on May 27 – in ten days – and play international matches against Norway on June 1 and against Greece on June 4. On June 6, the squad will fly to the base in Dallas.

The squad must be registered with FIFA by June 1st, but injured players can be substituted up to 24 hours before the World Cup opener against Tunisia in Monterrey, Mexico on June 15th.

Former Mjällby defender Herman Johansson, now with Dallas in MLS, has been a defensive reserve for some time, mainly as cover for centre-back Carl Starfelt, who has had back problems for some time.

Norén expelled

Mjällby were hit by a red card to Axel Norén at the end of the first half.

Norén complained angrily about the red card, but the TV replays clearly showed that Norén pulled down Gustav Lindgren, who would have been free to advance if he had not been stopped by the Mjällby defender.

With one man down, the reigning Swedish champion club – and recent cup winner – was unable to withstand the offensively skilled Häcken. With fifteen minutes left, Julius Lindberg scored the Hisings club's only goal of the match.

Late Sunday afternoon's second match, between Västerås SK and AIK, ended 1–1.
