The 23-year-old was booked in May when his Nice team faced Metz in the French top flight. Big money had been bet on him being booked in the match, and Wahi is suspected of having deliberately taken the yellow card, reports The Athletic.
He was arrested a few weeks later and released after questioning. However, suspicions against him remain, even though the investigation has not yet led to any charges.
The Athletic has contacted Wahi, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) and the Ivory Coast Football Association without success.
Ivory Coast's World Cup tournament continues on Saturday when they face Germany in Toronto.
