More than 4.6 million soft drinks and bottles of water were also sold in the stadiums during the 39 days and 104 matches that the World Cup comprised, writes organiser Fifa (International Football Association Board). On average, more than 17,000 hot dogs were eaten per day and 119,000 drinks were consumed.
The matches were filmed with 5,000 cameras, and the championship was carried out with the help of 43,000 volunteers and 73,700 accredited security personnel.
There were 308 goals scored in the 104 matches, an average record 2.96 goals per match. The World Cup final between Spain and Argentina became the most watched soccer match in the United States with 62.8 million viewers.
