The gold favorite held, but it was a close call. Norway's women's handball team beat Germany 23–20 (11–11) after being pressured for a long time in the World Cup final in Rotterdam. Fantastic, it was a fun final, says Katrine Lunde in Viaplay's broadcast.

Goalkeeping legend Lunde, 45, had a golden championship finish with Norway. Germany, in their first World Cup final since the gold in 1993, hung with the Norwegians for a long time but stopped at 20 goals – and then it is ultimately difficult to win handball matches.

In Norway, star Henny Reistad was scoreless in the first half, but she got going and scored five goals after the break.

The World Cup gold was Norway's fifth all-time and was won in what was Katrine Lunde's 388th international match between the posts. There will be no more championships, but there may be another international match in front of the home crowd in Norway later this year.
