"This was a large-scale operation designed to exploit fans and take advantage of their love of football," Assistant Police Chief Robert Johnson told CBC.

Over 16,000 products - including national team shirts, flags and caps - were seized. They are believed to have a market value of SEK 23.5 million.

Canada is one of three World Cup hosts, along with the United States and Mexico. The World Cup starts on June 11.
