The American football final, Super Bowl, has had famous artists performing at halftime since the beginning of the 1990s. Now, the men's football World Championship is taking the same step.
It is Gianni Infantino, chairman of the International Football Federation (Fifa), who announces on his Instagram account that the men's World Championship final next year at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, USA, will have halftime entertainment and he calls it a "historic moment".
He also writes that Coldplay singer Chris Martin and the British band's manager Phil Harvey are involved behind the scenes.
"I would also like to thank Chris Martin and Phil Harvey from Coldplay, who will work with Fifa to compile the list of artists who will perform during the halftime show", it says.
Fifa boss does not reveal whether the show will lead to the pause in the World Championship final having to be extended. Normally, it lasts around 15 minutes.
The 2026 World Championship is played in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
