On Sunday, near Guadalajara, the leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel was killed by Mexican military forces, sparking violence in the city and elsewhere in the country.

The World Cup playoff will be played in Guadalajara in a month. New Caledonia will face Jamaica, and the winner of that match will face Congo for a place in the World Cup. According to Récord, discussions are underway that the matches may now need to be moved.

Guadalajara is the host city for four World Cup matches, and Mexico is also hosting matches in Mexico City and Monterrey.

FIFA has not commented on the matter.

If Sweden makes it to the World Cup, a group stage match against Tunisia awaits in Monterrey, Mexico.
