Just over a year after being kicked out of the Paris Olympics by the Swedish Olympic Committee – despite meeting the International Olympic Committee's qualifying limits – Sara Lennman got her revenge at the Tokyo World Championships.
She made it to the finals and came in twelfth.
It means a lot. Ever since the Olympics last year and everything that went with it and to be able to do this and show that I'm in the top twelve – it feels good in my stomach, it does, she said in Japan.
The final was the 29-year-old's last competition.
"After the summer of 2024, I was close to throwing in the towel due to sadness. Having dedicated my entire life to a sport and then ending with the absolute biggest disappointment was extremely difficult to accept. In the end, I ended up giving myself at least one more year – to be able to end on my own terms and, not least, with something joyful," she writes on Instagram.
