The Serbian football association has received the okay from the European football association Uefa to, with the consent of Albania, move the match.
”The main reason is safety – not just for the fans, but above all for the players and all others involved in the match”, says the Serbian football association.
Previous meetings between the countries have been surrounded by unrest. Not least the European Championship qualification in Belgrad 2014, when a drone with a flag for ”Greater Albania” landed on the pitch. In the ”Greater Albania” depicted on the flag, several areas were included, including the former Serbian province Kosovo, which in 2008 proclaimed its independence.
A brawl broke out then, both on the pitch and in the stands, and the match was interrupted without being completed.
The arena in Leskovac accommodates approximately 8,000 spectators, compared to 52,000 at the arena in Belgrad.
