The Netherlands needed to defeat Denmark in tonight's European Championship match to give Sweden a chance to qualify for the World Championship already on Friday.
But Denmark won 30-26 and now the Netherlands and Sweden will meet in Vienna to fight for fifth place in the European Championship.
The semifinals: Hungary-Norway and Denmark-France.
Norway, Denmark, and Hungary have secured World Championship spots. France (reigning world champions) and hosts Germany, as well as the Netherlands, are directly qualified for the World Championship finals.
The World Championship qualifying draw will take place on Saturday and will be decided in eleven double matches (winner to the World Championship) in April next year. The World Championship will take place from November 27 to December 14, 2025.
