The significant surplus can be attributed to the public interest by the organizer.

15 of the 34 matches in Avicii Arena in Stockholm were sold out. A total of 297,500 spectators came to the arena during the championship weeks in May.

"It is with great pleasure that we can note that the World Championship in Stockholm became the hockey party we strived for, at the same time as the economic outcome is a message of strength. The surplus gives us the opportunity to strengthen Swedish ice hockey and at the same time build a stable economic foundation for the future. In a time of uncertainty, it is more important than ever to have resources that provide security and scope for action", says Anders Larsson, chairman of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association.

An independent report also shows that the championship had significant tourism economic effects. The tourists' turnover in Stockholm County was 729.9 million kronor.

The USA became World Champions after defeating Switzerland in the final. Sweden won the bronze match against Denmark.
