Diribe Welteji, runner-up in the 1,500 metres at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, was banned from competing in the Tokyo World Championships last year. Just a day before the start of the World Championships, she was suspended pending an investigation.
Now the entire case is settled, and CAS has established that Welteji violated anti-doping rules when doping control officers were allowed to leave her home without collecting a sample.
The arbitration court also notes that language barriers contributed to her husband denying the inspectors access to the home. The sanction therefore remains a two-year suspension, and with deductions for time already served, the suspension expires on June 30, 2027.
