Geraint Thomas, 38, announces that he is ending his career after this season.
The Welshman, who was the first from his country to win the Tour de France with his victory in 2018, has made the decision public on Instagram.
"Not in my wildest dreams had I expected to be a professional cyclist for 19 years. There will be plenty of time to reflect on that, but before that, I have some big races to prepare for", he writes.
Besides winning the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, he has also achieved three stage wins in the competition. He has also had a second and third place in the overall standings in Giro d'Italia, in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
