Women's average pension is only 74 percent of men's, according to a new report from Handelsbanken. The pension gap between the two sexes is SEK 7,100 a month. One explanation for the difference is that women take parental leave to a significantly greater extent than men.
"For many, it may be worth discussing the possibility of compensatory savings for those who have taken on greater responsibility during the years when the children are young. This can help reduce the effect on future pensions," says Martin Björgell, pension expert at Handelsbanken, in a press release.
