The murder of the girl shook France in 2022. Now the suspected murderer is brought to court, accused of having raped, tortured and murdered 12-year-old Lola in Paris.

The now 27-year-old suspected woman was arrested after Lola disappeared in the northeastern part of the capital three years ago. The girl's body was later found in a suitcase in a building where her parents worked.

The suspected woman is of Algerian origin and had not left France after her student visa expired. The case led, among other things, to political demands for stricter application of immigration laws, but the victim's mother came out and appealed to politicians not to exploit her daughter's death.

According to the investigation, the girl was raped and beaten with scissors and a utility knife, bound with duct tape - also on her face, which led to her being suffocated to death.

On the first day of the trial, the girl's family was present in the courtroom and wore t-shirts with the text "You were the sun in our lives, you will be the star in our nights".

The suspected woman risks a life sentence.
